I truly believe that animals come into our lives and change our world completely. And we are better for it. No matter the heartbreak when they leave, we always wish we could start over with them again. Just one more day, week, chance with them.

And then there are the animals that don’t have people who feel that way about them. They were kept by people who feel they are just things. They are a dog who gets dumped out of a car on an abandoned road because their person no longer wants to keep them and the local shelter has a waitlist. He’s are a workhorse who goes to auction in the fall because he’s older and probably too arthritic to work next year so what’s the point in feeding him all winter? She’s an old dog that developed dementia and has started pottying in the house because she forgot how to get to her back door to go out and her person is so frustrated that they have to clean up messes after all of these years and in a moment of anger they opened the front door and let the dog out to wander away.

That’s where we come in. We scoop up these lost souls and we heal their hearts. Some of them have complicated medical diagnoses and only spend a few days with us before we have to let them go - but they know love when they leave. And others spend years with us healing, rehabbing and turning into the souls they were always meant to be. In the end, all animals who come to Horse & Hound Hilltop Haven know love and warmth.
